A Family History Knowledge Base in OWL 2
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper presents a challenging Family History Knowledge Base (FHKB) authored in OWL 2 DL. Originally, the FHKB was designed to act as a tool for education, especially about OWL 2’s features and the use of automated reasoners. As a result, the FHKB has been constructed to maximise use of inference. For individuals representing people, only genealogical assertions on parentage and sparse assertions of siblinghood are given explicitly. All other genealogical inferences are driven by a rich property hierarchy, property characteristics and subproperty chains. A rich collection of entailments are generated, but reasoners struggle to handle a version with all of Robert’s known relatives.

A Solution for the Man-Man Problem in the Family History Knowledge Base
The Family History Knowledge Base (FHKB) was presented at OWLED in 2008. The FHKB uses a rich object property hierarchy, including many OWL 2 features, to derive many entailments on some 450 individuals representing the Stevens family. In the ABox, only parent relationships and some sibling relationships (either isSisterOf or isBrotherOf) are asserted. Using a sparse assertion of brother or sis...
متن کاملCombining OWL with RCC for Spatioterminological Reasoning on Environmental Data
A new approach to spatioterminological reasoning is presented which is based on a hybrid knowledge representation system architecture and on a representation of the RCC family tree in OWL. The knowledge base into which the family tree is imported holds role assertions in terms of RCC-8 relations between individual regions. It is a key component of a semantic layer constructed on top of an envir...
متن کاملOn the Web Ontology Rule Language OWL 2 RL
It is known that the OWL 2 RL Web Ontology Language Profile has PTime data complexity and can be translated into Datalog. However, a knowledge base in OWL 2 RL may be unsatisfiable. The reason is that, when translated into Datalog, the result may consist of a Datalog program and a set of constraints in the form of negative clauses. In this paper we first identify a maximal fragment of OWL 2 RL ...
متن کاملUse of OWL 2 to Facilitate a Biomedical Knowledge Base Extracted from the GENIA Corpus
The annotation of the GENIA corpus, a set of biomedical articles, targets the classification of biological entities based on their association with a domain-tailored taxonomy of categories. By incorporating information extraction process on the corpus we have developed a knowledge base (KB) that includes a more comprehensive taxonomy of categories, relationships between biological entities, and...
